JANNIS PSYCHOPEDIS  “The Freedom fighters”

Jannis Psychopedis creates a portrait gallery of Heroes of ’21 and did not depict the figures in the idealized manner.

The Heroes’ images, whether in vivid colour or black-and-white woodcut,

are inscribed in the collective memory, as vehicle of freedom, proving that the reverberation of the struggle remains strong and a source of inspiration for contemporary artists.

The gaze of the fighters invites viewers to uncover the inner forces, emotions and thoughts that these heroic figures harboured, and also aims to initiate an engaging conservation, between works of historical painting that exhibit in the permanent collection of the Nafplion annexe, giving the historical character of the town.
