On Wednesday, January 22, 2020, the exhibition The Human Form in Greek Painting, 20th Century, with artworks from the National Gallery’s and the E. Koutlidis Foundation’s collections, was inaugurated at the B & M Theocharakis Foundation for the Fine Arts and Music, was inaugurated.
Seventy-three modern Greek art paintings are presented at the exhibition, aiming to point out the adventure of the human form in the history of 20th century Greek painting. The exhibition helps the visitor, to acknowledge that the human form, which is a favorite subject of Greek artists throughout the 20th century, to observe the human form’s gradual release from the academic naturalism, and its expressive autonomy, as well as the influence that the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century had on the contemporary Greek painting.
