From 10.08.2012 to 30.09.2012
Sifnos, Old School, Kastro, 10/08/2012 – 30/09/2012
Under the policy of decentralization and strengthening of the local efforts for the presentation and promotion of Greek art, the National Gallery has responded positively to the request of Sifnos Municipality concerning the exhibition activity on the island.
In collaboration with the Municipality of Sifnos, the National Gallery launches a fourth exhibition, entitled “Art Donations to the National Gallery – 1959-2007 – Option”.
In Sifnos exhibition, as mentioned in the title, the first donation concerns the Mytaras’ work and comes from the Ministry of Education in 1959 and the last one from the great gift of Daniel, in 2007. The selection of projects mainly concerns donations of artists but also significant legacies as the ones of Chris Kapralou, Nana Isaiah, Angela Nicolaou, and Savvas Charatsidis. Some works come from donations of the artist’s family, like Heleni Vakalo and Photica-Hatzi-Sicelioti. Also, there are some gifts of the Ministry of Education, as already mentioned, or of the Ministry of Culture and Science, on the works of Andreas Vourloumis and Paris Prekas. Moreover, remarkable is the donation of JF. Kostopoulos, on Daniel Gounaridis work.
The exhibition’s artists in their large majority consist of important and well-known artists, some less prominent, or strangers with important and interesting projects. The exhibition is characterized by many surprises, as well as by the emergence of the diversity treaty.
